Blossom Tree Display Lesson Plan
This lesson plan was carried out on the 12th of March during block week. Personally creating a guidance for the children of a blossom tree, any child could them come to the arts and crafts area within the nursery placement during the free time to get involved with creating their own blossom tree. The resources that were available were paints, paintbrushes and pom poms to dab the blossom aspect of the painting on with. This was carried out using the ‘creative development’ within the seven areas of learning. After the children who wanted to get involved finished their blossom trees, we then asked children to come and paint a letter with some guidance of showing of how the letter was displayed off a practitioner. Once they were all dried with the help of another practitioner, the display was put up of the children’s blossom trees around their arts and crafts area.
Winter Display Lesson Plan
This lesson plan was carried out on the 15th of January. Once again using the ‘creative development’ area of learning, a large piece of paper was laid out in a safe area for the children to choose to get involved within their own free play to create the ‘winter’ display for the wall. The resources provided for the children within this activity were several different blue coloured paints, cotton balls, glitter, paint brushes, bingo dabbers, different textured materials and pom poms. This gave the children a sense of using their own initiative to design how they processed their thoughts on what the winter season looks like. Throughout this process pictures were taken of the children getting involved, and anything that was said that was related to winter were recorded down and then all displayed on the wall with the help of other practitioners on this display.
St Dwynwen’s Day Lesson Plan
Unfortunately there were no images taken of this task because it was very hands on with the pupils and did not want to get any children in the photos. This lesson plan was carried out on the 25th of January. The area of learning that was used during this task was ‘knowledge and understanding of the world’, as it was carried out as a scientific experiment. The resources provided within this task were a heart shaped ice cube tray filled with vinegar and red food colouring, spoons, pippettes, a cup of water and baking soda. This was carried out in a space made within the outdoor play area during the children’s free play, so any nursery child could get involved. The aim of the activity was to release the hearts from the ice cube tray onto a tray and allow the children to engage with the science activity by mixing the baking soda and water together with the spoon, then using the pippettes to release the mixture onto the ice hearts for it to have a reaction. It was a fun task and the children really enjoyed it. There were questions asked throughout the task for the children to understand if ice was cold or hot, what would happen if…, etc.
Dinosaur Shape Lesson Plan
Unfortunately there were no images taken of this task due to it being carried out in class hands on and did not want pictures of the children. The area of learning that was used during this activity was ‘mathematical development’. This lesson plan was carried out on the 18th of March. This task was apart of my child development resource that was created and taken into my nursery setting to carry out, observe and reflect on how children used it. The current theme that was being used within the classroom with the children as I created this resource was shapes, and getting the nursery pupils to recognise and understand 2D and 3D shapes. The resource included two guided images of ‘build-a-dinosaur’ prompt that were made out of clear 2D shapes only. The children were then given the same shapes that were seen in the prompt images to see if they could recognise what shapes were being used, see if they could understand and name them and then create their own dinosaurs out of the shapes. This was a successful task, and the group included all different abilities due to it being carried out within the nursery children’s free play once again.
Welsh Fruit Cards Lesson Plan
Once again, unfortunately there were no pictures taken of this task due to not wanting to take pictures of the children. This lesson plan was carried out on the 27th of February. The area of learning that was used during this activity was the ‘Welsh language development’. This task was carried out within the nursery children’s free play, and was set out in the puzzle area of the classroom. The resource included several different cards with images of fruit on it with one card in Welsh and one card in English. The instructions were to turn all the cards over and play a matching game of turning two cards over and ending up matching all the fruits together. Each time they would match the fruits together, with support the child would repeat out loud the name of the fruit in both Welsh and English. This resource was effective and the children really enjoyed getting involved with this task, and worked together well in a group task when choosing the matching cards.
